Ohio does not require families to use a funeral director, although some crematories will only accept a body from a funeral home. There is a 24-hour wait after a death before cremation, and the burial permit issued by the local registrar also covers cremation. Every legal next of kin at the same level must sign the cremation authorization, and a death certificate costs $21.50. Our Ohio Funeral Guide walks you through each step.
