A direct cremation in North Dakota costs about $3,183 on average, one of the higher state averages. Prices vary from one provider to the next, so ask two or three funeral homes for their General Price List before you decide. Under the FTC Funeral Rule, they must give you one when you ask. North Dakota does not require families to use a funeral director: a family member acting as the funeral practitioner can obtain the final disposition-transit permit. A death certificate costs $15 for the first copy and $10 for each extra copy ordered at the same time. If the person who died could not pay, the county human service zone may cover up to $3,500 toward disposition. Our North Dakota funeral and cremation guide explains each step.
