Montana does not require families to use a funeral director, and the person in charge of the disposition can file the death certificate. There is a 24-hour wait after death before a cremation can take place, and the family must tell the crematory about a pacemaker or any other implant. A certified death certificate costs $16. Our Montana funeral and cremation guide explains each step.
